6 Breakfast Shake Recipes

I believe that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. It fuels your body when it is on empty and sets you up for the rest of your day. Some of us are too busy in the morning to make a good, nutritious breakfast, so a great alternative is a shake. There are so many shakes out there that are already made which is convenient, but they are usually LOADED with sugar to make it taste good or a bunch of preservatives to make it last longer. Do you ever wonder how it can sit on the shelf for so long before you put it in your fridge and drink it? Ewww. Gross.

There is enough fake stuff in the world so I would rather just get my own fresh or frozen stuff and make it at home myself. Although I am lazy and have ADHD, so it has to be as uncomplicated and easy as possible. img_1206I have a Visalus vanilla shake powder delivered to me on a monthly auto-ship subscription, so I can mix it with anything and don’t have to worry about running out. You can sign up for your own here: http://marciniw.bodybyvi.com.  Next, you can get fresh fruits and veggies or you can buy them frozen like I do. I will post another article about fresh vs frozen later. You also need a liquid like water, milk, or my favorite which is almond milk. Lastly, you need something to blend it with. We have a Nutrabullet in our house and I am SO in love with it. You don’t have to worry about juicing or separating or doing any extra work. But if you just have a normal blender that is fine too.

There are SO MANY recipes out there that are great for you to use, so it just depends on your preference. I have 6 shakes that I make on a regular basis.

  • Strawberry
  • Mixed berry
  • Chocolate
  • Orange creamsicle
  • Peanut butter cup
  • Apples, carrots, spinach

Before I share recipes with you and before you go out to buy all these ingredients, you really should go read this article from Artsy Chicks Rule about freezer prepping. It changed my world. It makes it actually possible for me to continue my shakes on a daily basis. Otherwise it would be too much work for me and I’m not into all that. http://www.artsychicksrule.com/2014/01/green-smoothies-recipes-tip.html

Here’s a small example of my freezer bags with just strawberries and spinach.

Make sure you get FREEZER bags and I usually use quart size.

So here are the 6 recipes:

  • Strawberry
  1. 8 oz. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk
  2. 2 scoops Vi-Shape vanilla shake mix
  3. 1/2 cup spinach
  4. ½ cup frozen strawberries

Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend well. If you have the strawberries and spinach prepped then you just empty the bag into the blender and add the other stuff. Boom. Done.

I avoid ice cream or sorbets because they have so much sugar and extra calories. I also use Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk for the same reason…save sugar and calories. Also, when you use frozen strawberries you don’t have to use ice. I told you, I’m lazy.

  • Mixed Berry
  1. 8 oz. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk
  2. 2 scoops Vi-Shape vanilla shake mix
  3. 1/2 cup spinach
  4. ½ cup frozen mixed berries
  • Chocolate
  1. 8 oz. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk
  2. 2 scoops Vi-Shape vanilla shake mix
  3. 1 scoop of Nesquick Chocolate No Sugar Added powder
  • Orange creamsicle
  1. 1 oz. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk
  2. 7 oz. Orange juice
  3. 2 scoops Vi-Shape vanilla shake mix
  • Peanut butter cup
  1. 8 oz. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk
  2. 2 scoops Vi-Shape vanilla shake mix
  3. 1 Tablespoon PB2 powder
  4. 1 Tablespoon Nesquick Chocolate No Sugar Added powder
  • Apples, carrots, spinach
  1. 8 oz. Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk
  2. 2 scoops Vi-Shape vanilla shake mix
  3. 1/4 cup apples (don’t use the seeds because they are bad for you)
  4. 1/4 cup carrots
  5. 1/4 cup spinach

There are so, so, so many different shake recipes and every person is different. So if you don’t like any of these, then just look up Visalus shake recipes on Google. You don’t have to use Visalus shake mix, you can replace it with any vanilla flavored shake mix that you want. Send me a message or comment below if you’ve tried any of these or have any other suggestions. I’d like to hear from you!
